Beach, Bugs and Byes

BEACH DAY

The constant sound of waves crashing on the shore always reminds me of the unwavering strength and power of our great God. On our last family fun day at the beach, the boys reveled in the beautiful weather, enjoying the water, horseback riding, and even an ATV ride. Playing football on the beach is a must, as are the leisurely walks where we discuss various topics! We savored delicious food, relaxed while listening to music, and observed the people around us.
Bugs
Some bugs, like butterflies, are beautiful as they flutter and gracefully dance among the flowers. Others, like bees, might inspire a bit of fear, yet they serve important roles by pollinating trees and flowers. Then there are bugs like mosquitoes and fire ants, which surely had a purpose in creation, but after the fall, seem to serve mainly as reminders that we no longer live in a perfect world! Our boys are currently dealing with an unpleasant infestation of such insects... BED BUGS. This is a common issue in Africa, not related to cleanliness, but rather a consequence of constantly being in close contact with everyone. Public transport often crams 20-30 people into a vehicle designed for 12, making it easy to pick up these unwelcome guests at any time! Unfortunately, these intruders have invaded the Etwene house, and we are educating ourselves on how to eliminate them. We've used sprays, purchased steamers to treat all the mattresses, and acquired a large kettle to boil and wash all the sheets and clothes while thoroughly decluttering and cleaning the house. Please pray for the Lord to rid us of these pests and for the boys to remain diligent as we battle this unwanted war! It has been a lot for them, and they are all tired and a bit frustrated.
Byes
Goodbyes are never easy! I've left a piece of my heart in Ghana for over 14 years now, and somehow, it never becomes easier to leave. My last day was a typical day in Ghana; nothing went as planned, and all my plans quickly fell apart. We experienced "lights out" (no electricity), which also meant no running water! It was quite the beginning to a VERY long journey home, BUT God remains faithful even in disrupted plans and challenging journeys. Recently, during a Bible study, God reminded me of why we miss the people we love and how this longing to be near our loved ones here on earth should remind us of the longing we SHOULD have to be with Jesus face to face in heaven. This gentle reminder was a grace from the Lord as my heart yearns to be with those who are far away. Today, I pray that you will look at the events in your day and see how they can remind you to look towards heaven and the joy we will experience there in the presence of our Lord and King.
